03 What Caught My Eye After Class: My House @ TCU, Fort Worth TX
When looking at the photograph above, one might wonder where it was taken. Was it on a hike? My quiet place on the Trinity? Some other popular outdoor location? The answer to all of these questions is no. In fact, this picture was taken from my bedroom window of the house I rent near TCU.
When asked by Dr. Dan to go take a photo of something outside that caught my eye, I looked out my window simply to check the weather before heading out to explore. However, I was sidetracked by what I saw. The stormy, cloudy skies had cleared to make way for a beautiful afternoon and I was shocked at the view in front of me. Upon admiration, I realized that the trees next to my bedroom looked more like the scenery one would expect during a tropical getaway, and not from the heavily-trafficked Fort Worth street. I realized that even though I have been living here for over a year, I never really stopped to look around and appreciate what has been inches away from me this whole time.
Intrigued, I went downstairs and out my front door in order to get some different views and photographs of the trees and foliage that stretch up to my window.

Overall, this short nature observation assignment taught me something important. Enjoying nature and the outdoors doesn't mean you have to drive to a park, trail, lake, or mountain. Although these options are great and discovering new places is exciting, there is worthy and beautiful nature is all around us!! And you might be surprised by what you will find close to home - even as close as right outside your bedroom window.
